Representatives from the Town of Norwood announced last week that they were proud two of their own received prestigious recognitions from the Colorado Municipal Clerks Association (CMCA). Norwood Town Clerk Amanda Pierce has been awarded the Small Community Clerk of the Year, and Becky Hannigan, the town’s deputy clerk, has been named Rookie of the Year.

Norwood officials said these awards highlight the exceptional service and dedication that both have provided to the Norwood community. Pierce, who has served as town clerk for the last three years, has demonstrated commitment, effective communication and efficiency in local government.

“Her leadership and meticulous work in overseeing town records and operations were key factors in earning this prestigious honor from the CMCA,” the news release said.

Hannigan, recipient of the Rookie of the Year clerk award, joined the town’s administration in 2023 and “has quickly become an invaluable asset.”

“Her enthusiasm, attention to detail, and eagerness to learn have been evident in all her work, making an immediate impact on the effectiveness of the town clerk’s office,” the news release added. “This recognition underscores her strong start in municipal government and reflects her bright future in public service.”

Pierce, after a ceremony in Fort Collins honoring the pair, told the Forum on Thursday night the recognition felt “amazing.”

“We both work so hard to ensure transparency, compliance, education and community engagement in Norwood, so getting a Colorado Municipal Clerks Association Award is beyond exciting,” Pierce said. “I was really surprised to get the nomination and learn about it, especially with everything that has happened at the clerk’s office the last couple months. Unfortunately, we had an idea that we were selected by an accidental leak of surprise for the awards a couple weeks ago, but we weren’t 100 percent sure until tonight. It feels good to know the dedication and determination is paying off, and Norwood is getting on the map on a larger scale and in positive ways.”

Pierce said Norwood does have an amazing team, from Public Works to the administrative offices at Town Hall.

“We are going to move mountains in Norwood,” she added.

Nominations for the awards go out to all the clerks, managers and councils who are a part of the Colorado Municipal Clerks Association in the State of Colorado, and anyone can nominate an eligible staff member for the award.

“The Town of Norwood is incredibly fortunate to have such dedicated and talented individuals in these roles,” said Candy Meehan, mayor of Norwood. “Amanda’s years of experience and Becky’s fresh perspective have both greatly contributed to the efficient and transparent operation of our town government. We are proud of their hard work and grateful for their service.”

The news release reiterated the awards from the Colorado Municipal Clerks Association are a testament to the hard work and dedication of the team in the clerk’s office, and both continue to exemplify the highest standards of service in the Norwood community.
