Thomas Andre Jensen, 60, of Norwood, Colorado, passed away on Aug. 15 surrounded by family and loved ones after his extraordinary battle with cancer.

Tom was born Sept. 25, 1962, in Montrose, Colorado, the third child of Edward and Jessie (Davis) Jensen.   Tom lived in and around the Norwood area his entire life. Tom attended Norwood High School where he excelled in football and wrestling. He graduated in 1980.

In 1981, Tom married his high school sweetheart, Renee Banks.  Tom and Renee had two children, Chance and Corey Jensen.   In 1987, Tom and Renee divorced and Tom became a timeless bachelor who was dedicated to his work. Tom and Renee remained lifelong friends.

Tom was extremely proud of his boys joining the  military.  Chance became a U.S. Marine and Corey a U.S. Airman.

Tom cherished his sister, Bernice, who forever looked after him as only a big sister can. The two had a wonderful bond and affection for each other.

Tom was loved by all who lived in and around Norwood and was known for his hard work and honesty and for his passion for construction.

Tom’s hobbies included being outdoors, hunting, fishing and spending time with family, as well as searching for and collecting arrowheads and rebuilding and restoring old Mustangs.

In 1975, at age 11, Tom began working during the summer months for his family’s business, Ed Jensen Construction, Inc. After high school, Tom remained with the family business, advancing to heavy equipment operator where he took on the responsibility of building Forest Service logging roads throughout the Uncompahgre Plateau. After the company acquired logging equipment in the early 1980s, Tom began learning the art of timbering, loading log trucks and restoring landing areas, while continuing with the road construction.  Tom spent many years working around the Gunnison, Telluride and Norwood areas. Tom was known to be one of the most honest and hard-working individuals by all who knew him, and he was extremely proud of carrying on the family legacy of running Ed Jensen Construction, which he took over in 2003.

In 2003, Ed Jensen Construction began constructing house sites and reservoir sites in and around the Telluride area and continued to operate in and around the Norwood area for the remainder of Tom’s life.

Tom is survived by son Chance Jensen, son Corey Jensen and his beloved granddaughter, Emily Jensen, as well as his sister Bernice White and brothers Mike and Jim Jensen.

Tom is preceded in death by his father Edward Jensen and mother Jessie Jensen. There will surely be an empty spot in the hearts of all of those who knew him and loved him.

Services will be held at Redvale Community Church on Aug. 26 at 11 a.m. Graveside services will commence afterwards at the Norwood Cemetery, followed by a potluck lunch at the Redvale Community Center.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Redvale Community Center.
