Wild Gals Market open Sundays now

Posted

Starting Sunday, March 15, Wild Gals will be open on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“We have had a lot of requests for this, and we can finally do it,” said owner and operator Galit Korngold.

In other news for the Naturita grocery, Korngold said the community should know about the Double-Up Food Bucks program, a Nourish Colorado program that incentivizes SNAP-paying customers with up to $20 of free, fresh produce.

“It's a great way to stretch SNAP benefits and eat healthier,” Korngold said. “Please inquire about this program when visiting Wild Gals. There is no sign-up required. It's automatic.”

Korngold also said she’s proud the store is moving toward a “seed-oil free" product base. She’s carefully vetting all the products that the store carries, selecting ones that are made with oils that are actually good for one’s health, like avocado oil, olive oil and tallow.

“Even the mayo that we use in our grab-and-go food is made with avocado oil,” Korngold said. “Producers are finally waking up, and slowly but surely more items are becoming available for health-conscious customers.”

It’s still citrus season in the shop with Arizona tangelos, Texas grapefruit and organic cuties, lemons and limes available.

“Berries are abundant and affordable right now, and so are tropical fruits like mangoes,” she added.

With the warm season approaching, the West End can expect to find more local greens at Wild Gals. Korngold is also happy to announce a new, local ground beef supplier, HWY 145 Craft Cuts, of Redvale.

“They are a fifth-generation family ranch that uses sustainable grazing practices and low-stress handling,” she said. “The cattle is grass-fed and grain-finished. Their awesome ground beef is available in our freezer right now.”

As always Wild Gals is offering soups, stews and sauces from the freezer. Grab-and-go items persist too with sandwiches, salads and dips. Korngold said they’re making everything with organic ingredients and locally-sourced items as much as possible.

“We cook for our customers the same way that we cook for our own families, so you know it's going to be tasty and healthy,” she said.

Weekly, take-home dinners are in store for this summer. This year, Wild Gals will be taking pre-orders in advance, so they know how much to make and avoid wasting food.

Catering also continues for family-style dinners, and the Wild Gals Market catering menu will be shared later this spring. All are invited to follow Wild Gals social media accounts on Instagram or Facebook for news and updates.

Korngold reminds all the Farmers Market will be here in June. Last year, the market waned by the end of summer, due to a lack of vendors. In April this year, Korngold will start the advertising campaign for vendors.

“We hope to have a thriving and consistent farmers market this year,” she said. “If anyone is interested in becoming a vendor, it's very simple. Let us know, so we can promote you. Pay a $5 vendor fee, and set up.”

With spring coming, Korngold is further looking forward to “really tasty tomatoes.” She’s sourcing them from Nucla, Naturita, Norwood and Paradox.

“In the past year, we have established some great relationships with local growers in our community,” she said. “We will be offering their gorgeous bounty this summer. If you didn't already know, Wild Gals loves local.”
